Sam and Ellena celebrated their wedding at Poverty Bay Showgrounds in Gisborne, joined by close friends and family in a setting that balanced simplicity with natural beauty. Framed by clear skies and thoughtful details, the day reflected their refined sense of style. Wearing bespoke pieces from Stonz Jewellers, every element was chosen with care. Discover the considered touches that defined their unforgettable celebration.

How did you meet?
Our first meeting was at the Hawke’s Bay Races—though it definitely wasn’t love at first sight... Sam had fully embraced the festivities and made a rather bold introduction that I wasn’t quite ready for, so I spent the rest of the night trying to steer clear of him. A few months later, fate stepped in again when we crossed paths at a gig called Longline. It was a chilly evening, and Sam offered me his jersey and kissed me on the head—a small, sweet gesture that completely shifted how I saw him.
Although it seems we come from different worlds - we're surprisingly alike in the ways that matter most! He brings a calm, grounded energy to our relationship, and we’ve built a beautiful balance together.

What was your engagement story?
Sam proposed on Christmas Eve at my parents’ farm, out on the deck of the hunting lodge. It was quiet, genuine, and completely us. He was nervous, I was in shock—and somewhere between the laughter and happy tears, I said yes. We celebrated with our families the next day, and it’s still one of our favourite memories ever.

Did you always know what you wanted your engagement ring to be or was it a process of trial and error?
I had plenty of ideas saved over the years from Pinterest - like most people, I’d been dreaming and pinning for a while. But it wasn’t until I started working with Kurt and Annabelle that everything started to take shape. I had a vision, but it was their guidance and attention to detail that brought it to life. They helped refine my ideas and turn all that inspiration into something truly special.
"Being surrounded by creative freedom, but gently guided by real knowledge and expertise - that's where the magic happens. You end up with something that feels entirely your own, but better than you could've imagined"

How did you find the experience of designing a ring remotely?
The process was smoother than I ever expected. Kurt really took the time to listen and understood exactly what I had in mind. Even with everything done remotely, I felt included and informed every step of the way. The digital mock-ups made a huge difference - they brought the design to life and made it all feel real, even from afar. And with Sam having the final say, it was special to see it all come together through his perspective too.

How did you feel when you saw the finished ring in person?
Looking down at my ring is a constant reminder of the commitment Sam and I share - it’s not just beautiful, it’s completely ours. I was overwhelmed when I first saw it. It was even more stunning than I had imagined, and I couldn’t take my eyes off it. It felt deeply personal as it was made just for me.

Looking back, is there any advice you would give to couples designing their rings remotely?
Trusting the process is essential, and finding a designer who genuinely listens to you makes all the difference. Open, honest communication lays the foundation for a successful collaboration. Be clear about your vision and what matters most to you, but also stay open to the expert guidance your designer offers. Their experience can elevate your ideas, refining and enhancing them into something even more beautiful and meaningful than you initially imagined. Together, you’ll create a piece that truly reflects your story.

Do you have any advice for future newlyweds?
"Plan the big things... but be ready to go with the flow!"
Details may change - layouts, seating, even what you wear - but what truly endures is the love and support that surrounds you. Let yourself be fully present in the joy, release the pressure of perfection, and dance with your whole heart. Because in the end, this day is about you and your partner, and the beautiful life you’re choosing to share forever.
